Summary: A poem about adapting to a lifestyle to be with someone.

A good friend of mine, Noah, has rewritten this poem with my permission in his own words. Read his version of Oleander here. It’s actually a lot better, lol.

Oleander

Your words speak truth
A poison in my veins
Slowly flowing throughout
However, I refuse to weaken

Pay me no attention
As you think I lay dying
Know not in your mind
Just continue your journey

The path you take is burning
Into my heart you pulse
Sweet poison fills the body
Now deceased in your eyes

Notice not my petals seeking
Your rays desperate for attention
Refuse to believe I firmly stand
Please have faith in my strength

Water me down to help me grow
With that sweet poison
To which I’m now immune
Turning instead into a fatal nectar

I’ve grown accustomed to
The poison in my veins
However, I refuse to weaken
Transforming to an Oleander
